CONTENT MANAGER - The Weather Channel, Atlanta, GA

I. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Content Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining and updating
websites for The Weather Channel that package video and interactive content to
align with and compliment specific programming themes and brand initiatives. The
Content Manager will develop the creative vision and oversee its implementation
as well as manage day-to-day operations and upkeep. This person will assure that
all web pages comply with The Weather Channel brand and standards. This person
will monitor competition and trends, and use this market knowledge to create
compelling and relevant content. This person must also be able to generate
reports and analyze data to evaluate product success in order to set future
direction and strategy.

II. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work effectively with cross-functional team (designers, developers) to
translate customer and programming needs, target audience, revenue
opportunities, and technology directions into site requirements.
• Oversee the development and launch of website.
• Perform competitive and marketplace analyses to assess trends and develop
innovative and dynamic products.
• In collaboration with TWC producers, create content portfolio and
programming schedule from existing and planned network programming as well as
original web content.
• Develop/produce original broadband content (video, audio, Flash) that aligns
with programming initiative.
• Collaborate with TWC Programming group for content co-production and
versioning.
• Supervise edit/production sessions or provide clear direction for editors to
work unsupervised.
• Continuously monitor site, verifying page layout, and refreshing content
regularly.
• Gather metrics and generate reports to evaluate success of site and various
content offerings.
• Seek continuous improvement of overall content offering and develop new
content ideas.
• Maintain and grow relationships with Ad Sales and Marketing departments to
ensure quality products, supportive of business strategies

III. QUALIFICATIONS

A. KNOWLEDGE
• Minimum five years successful business experience in Product or Brand
Management; minimum two years in the online environment; experience working
within the television/video/ multimedia environment preferred.
• Background in video production, preferably as writer/ producer.
• Deep understanding of Web culture and customers
• Proven success in developing and managing cross-functional teams and
projects
• Graduate Business degree preferred, undergraduate degree required

B. SKILLS
• Ability to manage product development, from conception to execution to
modification and maintenance as required in the online environment
• Strong ability to organize information based on analysis of marketplace and
user feedback
• Strong communication skills and the ability to present strategies and
objectives both internally and externally
• Ability to perform cost analyses and identify and implement cost
efficiencies where appropriate
• Ability to manage a diverse workload and assign priorities to tasks,
effectively directing the activities of others
• Experience managing cross-functional teams with a proven track record in the
creation of new products
• Basic knowledge of HTML
• Grasp of Web audience and usage strategies

    Since one of the ideas is to split strings not into words, but hopefully into phrases more semantically informative than the words they are made of, doing that better should mean better suggestions, and avoiding what essentially are word n-tuples should make for smaller data and slightly faster querying.
