Will ESPN360 create a new model?

ESPN already commands high cable fees, and the cable TV network is extending the cable model to the web by charging ISPs to carry its broadband service. Verizon and Charter are on board but Cox is refusing to go along. “Lurking in the background is the question of whether consumers will make their choice of ISP based on whether it offers additional premium services like ESPN360,” writes Eric Bangeman. “ESPN is a powerful brand, to be sure, but strong enough to make someone select Verizon over Comcast?” That is the question.

We’ve seen how successful their “powerful brand” has been at getting consumers to switch cell phone carriers. Please, let me hang around the house between the hours of 8am and 4 pm for a cable install tech to come switch my ISP so i can watch 30 clips of second rate content, and overcooked segments on an autistic boy who scored 20 points in a game…Well i suppose i could convinced to swich…if Anna Kournikova and her hot cousin showed up to do the install…now that would be 360 degrees i’d wait for any day. I might even be convinced to go back to dialup.
