Most popular broadband show name ever

It’s called “Hook Me Up.” Not only is it the name of a technology show on Yahoo, but it’s also the name of an upcoming dating show on CBS.com’s InnerTube. Reports MediaPost, “CBS and Yahoo executives are aware of the shows’ identical names, but decided not to challenge each other for rights to the name because the shows are so different that there’s little chance of audience confusion, a CBS spokesperson said.” (Free reg. req.)

Strong quarter for Univision and its website

We keep pointing to the Hispanic market as a very strong growth sector in television and radio right now. The second quarter earnings releases prove it again. Univision had a 25% increase in net revenues over the same quarter in 2005. Much of that was due to the World Cup, but excluding that incremental revenue, growth was still at 8%. Univision.com had its best traffic numbers ever. Ad money is sinking all across the TV charts - except in Hispanic television, where it is rising quickly.

These companies are spending lots of ad money online

Got your attention? ClickZ has its terribly useful monthly table of the Top 50 Online Advertisers. The top five are: Vonage, University of Phoenix Online, Classmates.com, Cingular Wireless and Ameritrade.

Now Breaking… the DCMA for you: Circuit City

Consumerist found a Circuit City that offers a nifty service - they will rip your DVD into a video iPod friendly format for $10. Never mind that the price is way too much - the service is probably/definitely in violation of the Digital Copyright Millenium Act. Fighting The Man goes mainstream. (via BoingBoing)

What do I hear for this lovely :30 spot?

An update on a story we have been following: Nine major advertisers are testing an auction system that allows them to bid on television advertising time. They are investing $50 million to try out the e-Media Exchange, which - no surprise - is being built by eBay. As Broadcasting & Cable rightly points out, with this year’s upfront being so chaotic, advertisers are looking for new pricing models that are more web-like.

New AOL Video now live

The expanded site — now with user created clips — has relaunched in beta. While I applaud the effort to combine clips across a wide spectrum (and the web-wide video search feature is cool), I think AOL Video misses the mark. Why can’t I display the video by popularity, timeliness or ranking? Why do I have to load two consecutive pages once I click on a “hotlist” clip? Why does the “email this clip” feature spawn my Outlook? You’d think after seeing YouTube’s success, AOL would get it. Users want to control their own video experience. And everything must be quick and easy.
