CBS to re-air 9/11 documentary with language

If you remember seeing CBS’ award-winning documentary a few years ago, it featured the occasional unfiltered swear word. Since then, the FCC has jacked up indecency fines to unbelievable proportions. But no fear, CBS says it will re-air the documentary — updated with new material — without bleeping the language. “It’s important to take note of the event as it happened,” CBS executive producer Susan Zirinsky said. Good for CBS.

Oh how I long for the days when the FCC handed out call letters and broadcast frequencies and powers (even though I never really saw those days to begin with). Bureaucracy begets bureaucracy, I guess. This reminds me of when NBC (I think) aired Schindler’s List unedited. I think CBS will be safe, but I almost hope the FCC tries to go after them. Maybe more people will get behind deregulation.

Hasn’t CBS learned it’s lesson: they can show a guy humping a bloody stump (with no more than 3 thrusts), but if the guys a** is shown-it’s worthy of a fine. In this case, bodies falling from a hundred stories up is okay, but the firefighter exclaiming “wtf” is obscene.
CBS should run PSAs and a crawl during the program giving out a phone number amd email address for offended viewers to call CBS directly to voice their dissastisfaction. The local affils should do the same. If they do that and get more than 100 calls, I will send $100 to help with any fines they get. Anyone else?
