YouTube down for most of Tuesday

Cory Bergman August 15th, 2006

Update: YouTube crashed this morning and stayed offline for most of the day, but now it’s back. The message on the home page read, “OK. We admit it. We’re fixing stuff, but we’ll be up soon.” (For hours, the message explained that YouTube was “putting out some new features, sweeping out the cobwebs and zapping a few gremlins.” Yeah, right.) Like MySpace a few months ago, YouTube’s growing pains are starting to result in some serious downtime. And what’s worse is the fact the embedded players left big gaping holes in blogs everywhere, including right here on Lost Remote. (Thanks Hal and Chris!)

The message has changed. It now shows a rather humorous flowchart preceded by this:

“OK. We admit it. We’re fixing stuff, but we’ll be up soon.

We’ll be back later. In the meantime, please enjoy a layman’s explanation of our website…”

Maybe they were using some of those explosive, killer Dell batteries?

[...] YouTube crashes, still down [Lost Remote] “YouTube has been down for most of the day, and it has changed the message on the home page to read, ‘OK. We admit it. We’re fixing stuff, but we’ll be up soon’.” [...]

The moment I click on ANY YouTube link my browsers instantly crash. It’s now 9:11 PM PST. That problem should be fixed by now and I should at least have access to the Home Page of YouTube rather than having my browser crash. I can access any other video site. Not a memory problem in my browsers.
