Echostar-TiVo court battle raging

Cory Bergman August 18th, 2006

UPDATE: Now an appeals court has stepped in and temporarily blocked a judge’s order that Echostar disable several million DVRs currently in use by its Dish Network customers across the country. TiVo says the appeals court just wants time to examine the case — not that the court necessarily disagrees with the ruling judge. Four months ago, a jury ruled Echostar had infringed upon TiVo’s patent for DVRs in a $73.9 million judgment.

I haven’t read the case - was there any significant similarity between TiVo and the Echostar DVR? And what does this mean for the cable companies that offer it as part of the digital cable package?

I made the jump to a DVR earlier this year and I love it. Completely changed my viewing habits. I just need a DVD recorder now to dump all the recorded stuff out.

Free Satellite TV on PC?Category: Cool Stuff , Video
“I saw a website advertising software that’s supposed to give you free satelite TV on your PC. The program costs $40, but they claim it lets you watch hundreds of live worldwide channels free of charge. Sounds too good to be true… is this a scam?”
