SportsCenter does this. When you watch ESPN HD, not all their highlights are in HD. So they show the lo-def highlights in all their 4:3 glory with the vertical grey bars on the side. I think this is something broadcasters think is more of a problem than viewers do. We dealt with color and black & white mixing - we'll manage here, too.
