CBS to promote shows through Bluetooth

Cory Bergman August 24th, 2006

Walk up to any of five Bluetooth-powered terminals in Grand Central terminal in New York, and you’ll be able to download 30-second video clips on your mobile phone of five CBS shows, Shark, Smith, Jericho, The Class and CSI. Innovative. But I have to wonder, other than the novelty, why would anyone wanna download and watch 30-second network TV promos on their cell phones? (WSJ paid subscription, via PaidContent)

Interesting development. I guess CBS likes to test new ways to spread their content.
    Very creative , I think.

Thank you for sharing this story with me !

Bluetooth advertising is still in its infancy here in the US, but has been quite successful in Europe for over a year — Especially in places like airports and train stations, where people are standing in line and have nothing better to do.

I don’t question the future of Bluetooth advertising, I just question why people would want to watch 30-second promos of upcoming network shows.

    Content, yes. Promos, no.
