I wouldn’t want to watch all my TV on my computer because there are some shows I like to have on in the background while I surf the internet or IM with friends.

Well I’ll put up my hand. I watch almost all my tv shows on my lap top on the couch in the living room. Once you get used to it its great. I love watching in widescreen HDTV and being able to pause and watching whenever I want to. With the trend toward not having a tv in the living room its also great being able to put away the laptop at will. However I admit it would be nice to be able to watch on the TV when I feel like it. As long as its easy. Maybe through the XBOX 360?

as adm mentioned, many tv’s are already equipped to handle the task.

therein lies the killer for time slot tv.

seriously, how many (adult, non-college age, married, living in more than one room) people are really going to watch on their computers at home when they can get the big screen effect? or are their “shows” that important?

Eventually, won’t people just get tv’s that have computer inputs? I got rid of my tv a few months ago in favor of a flat-panel monitor from Dell. I hooked it up to a Tivo and a PC’s DVI output. So far, so good.

Can’t TiVo already access TV-over-IP? How long before set-top IP devices become standard in living rooms? I can’t imagine long.

Since I missed the first season of ‘Prison Break’ (because I was busy WORKING when it was on) I’ve been catching up with the FOX O&O’s On Demand feature.
But I gotta tell ya, it’s not that comfortable watching a laptop on the couch.

After work the other night I sat down on the couch with laptop in hand and watched a whole evening’s worth of Top Gear clips from YouTube and other video sharing sites.

I work in television, it’s my life. I never turned the TV on once. I didn’t miss it…

Sure, at home I like to plop down in front of my nice bigscreen HDTV in my Archie Bunker chair. But I spend 10 hours a day in a TV-less (and window-less for that matter) office where I certainly do enjoy being able to watch my free episodes of Lost on Thursday mornings, even when I know the same episode is sitting on my HD-DVR at home.
