Katie Couric has made her debut on CBS Evening News, so now it’s time to tell us what you think about her performance, the new format, the first-ever simulcast and the new set in comments below…

Well, it passed the time zone test for me. I’m in Seattle, and it won’t allow me to watch the East Coast live feed.

Starting w/ Lara Logan was a shrewd move…. There’s also an interview w/ NYT’s Thomas Friedman, which gives a little bit of depth right at the outset. She’s projecting more authority (gravitas, whatever) which is a switch. Pleasant but not perky, IMO.

video player of the simulcast is verrrry sloooow loading. in fact, right now it’s not loading at all.

Not bad for a first outing.
Still has the same bland (and pretty anonymous) CBS News correspondents. Except for Lara Logan, of course.
Cosmetically the newscast looked fine.
We got a look at the legs, of course.
And the cute ending.

took a while to get the simulcast loaded/working, but it looks pretty good once you get it going.
this taliban story is pretty compelling: US troops showing off their success in the region two years ago, Taliban showing off their success in the same region today. Good story.

I caught only the tail end, but I thought Couric’s request for viewers to suggest signoffs was a brilliant tactic to get viewers involved and committed right off the bat.
Once they sort through the suggestions and compile a list of, say, the top 10, she should use a different one each night and then have viewers vote.
I also thought including Ted Baxter in the “famous signoffs” series of clips was a wonderful touch.

Pretty much what expected. Lefty talking points and showing a picture of Bush next to Lenin.
She will close each time with: “Vote for Hillary in ‘08.”

2. polished stories for a news cycle
3. i miss Charles Kuralt
4. some connection between prince charles and scientology - didn’t quite follow that
5. Couric did just fine
6. the use of real Stalin and Hitler footage mixed with Bush footage was an unclear reenactment - future Stalin and Hitler appearances should be obvious cartoon characters or cgi robots

Ann Coulter is supposed to be biased, like Bill Maher.
Katie Couric is a liberal stooge posing as a journalist. Remember her wearing black after 2004 election. She’s so blatant.
She, like CBS, will be pimping Hillary’s run for the presidency in 2008.

The “Hitler, Stalin, Bush” images were disgusting.
And during the pro-Taliban segment, there was no mention by Couric that 250+ Taliban fighters were killed the past two days.
“This is Katie Couric, giving you the DNC talking points for September 5, 2006.”

I went to watch it this morning, I forgot about the premier yesterday, but the player just won’t load anything. Plus all the pieces appear to be the stories, and not the parts where Katie reads the news (the part I wanted to see, since she’s the new part).

One show in a row - I’ll grade the first nighter a B. Solid debut. Nervous? You bet she was. Did they try to pack too much into the first show? Of course. The opening vo by Walter is a keeper - nice subtle tie to program legacy. The “new” score is disappointing, an echo of a stronger original. Graphics are crisp. Direction was tight. Story selection was strong early in the run, need to get the count up. Agree with earlier comments about online integration - best of the big three. Her pitch to involve viewers “name that sign-off” is savvy, good interactive move. The show has no where to go but up. Congrats and kudos to Katie and gang for a good show. The online content needs serious work but the upside there is very significant.

What news? I’ve watched two nights now and it’s info-tainment. Fluff. Interviews and opinions as if we don’t have enough shows on TV doing that. I came away the second night wondering what actually did happen in the world yesterday. Also, no mention that we lost several soldiers in Iraq. I had to learn that somewhere else. If our soldiers are dying in foreign wars, shouldn’t that be on the evening news? Sure, Katy performs well. But the TV news in a democracy should be about more than a performance. Not everyone will take the time to go the website. PS: How many times in a half hour do we need to be told to go to the web site? That eats precious time when we mght actually learn about the *news*.

I’ve always loved Katie Couric and thought she was adorable, but it seems she is not truly being herself on this news broadcast. Her approach seems a bit stilted and unnatural, and she appears to be talking very slowly, for some reason. This is making it somewhat boring.

Katie Couric has the courage to be herself as anchor of prime time news and it does not detract from getting the news across. She is adding her personality to the news which may not be journalistically professional but it is refreshing.

300 is a great movie full of visual effects and graphics which made it different and much better.
Acting was great, director did a wonderful job and chose great actors, full of action, and it is based on a true story.

У меня такой вопрос,кто что интересное подскажет буду признателен.
Мы с друзьями собираемся поехать в круиз по просторам России и ближнего зарубежья месяца на два на своих машинах,но не как не можем согласовать маршрут,если у кого уже был опыт такого путешествия,может,что посоветуете.Девчонок с собой не берем,думаем,что во все городах России с этим не будет проблем,если у кого будут рекомендации и в вопросе отдыха с девушками тоже буду признателен.
