I’d rather watch Morgan Spurlock than Katie
Stephen Warley September 5th, 2006
OK, I have a different take on Ms. Couric’s debut. She did a swell job tonight, but honestly, I’d rather watch Morgan Spurlock. I can relate to him. Katie? Not so much. My point is this, news is all about customized preferences today. If I could choose my anchor, they would be more like Spurlock and less like Katie. As I choose my news, I’m certainly not searching out for pics of Tom Cruise’s kid. I know the show is all about Katie, but I miss the open used during Schieffer’s broadcasts when all the reporters introduced their own stories. It gave a sense of perspective. It’s only the first show, but I hope CBS News has the courage to go further. Dump the readers, have Katie do more interviews. Include even more community-generated content. As far as her sign off goes, she should say, “And now join me for an online discussion of tonight’s top story,” or something to that effect. Katie, be a “guide”, not an “anchor”.

Yes, good points, but you have to admit, Katie is the least “anchorish” of all network news anchors to date.

I agree. Morgan Spurlock was great in a Ze Frank sort of way. Hey! There’s an idea, Ze should do wone of those Free Speech things. Although, when I went to CBS.com last night I couldn’t exactly figure out how ‘I’ could submit one.
I just went back again to see if I could figure it out.

I can’t.
It would be cool if CBS news grabbed videos tagged with CBSNEWSFREESPEECH and played them on the network. At least aggregate them all on a CBS News web page.
If you wantt o contribute to a news story like Free Speech, head over to http://Rocketboom.com and contribute to their 9/11 piece.
Where were you on 9/11

On Monday, September 11, 2006 we will create a compilation for Rocketboom. ”
Maybe CBS can watch Rocketboom and see if they want to try something like that.

I hate to say it, but there’s something about the name “Katie” that seems little girl-ish and sort of cutesy.
