TiVo skips Couric’s debut

Cory Bergman September 6th, 2006

Because “The CBS Evening News with Bob Schieffer” had become “The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric,” some TiVos decided not to record it last night. (Thanks, Chris!)

My TiVo had it labeled as just “CBS Evening News” before — no anchor label. Now it has the full “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric”

Stupid TiVo. Didn’t TiVo hear of Katie Couric taking over? (Though it is hard to remember sometimes that this technology is still in it’s infancy.)

Same thing happened yesterday with NBC Nightly News.
It changed to NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams
and my TIVO didn’t record it. Since resetting it,
I notice I now have to set another season pass for the
weekend version of Nightly as well. Jeez.

    Dan,

You might be better off creating a wishlist on your TiVo so it catches both of them instead of having to have 2 season passes.

I’ve actually moved on to the podcast of the NBC Nightly news… you can play it in the background and you don’t really need the video most of the time…

Good heads up on the Weekend news recording…

Tivo did have a message this morning about the Katie Couric name change… but NOT the NBC change. Hmmmm… Could this be because CBS also ponied up to have a special section devoted to recording the premieres of some of their new shows? Synergy or Bad Member Service for us…

The CBS thing didn’t make sense… 3 of the 4 shows didn’t have showings yet… How can you set these up to record when you don’t know when they will be on and what they will preempt?

Who will be the first network to smarten’ up and rebroadcast the primetime line-up from 2am to 5am. It will just take away having to choose between shows… like that 9pm block on Thursday… C’mon ABC and NBC, you need to do this. We’ll still record the same local affiliate ads (we’ll skip them, but we would have done that anyway). Are you REALLY going to spend all that money on “the Nine” and “Kidnapped” to play chicken for a timeslot?

ABC is already on board somewhat with this idea… I found a “new episode” of “Grey’s Anatomy” recorded from last Sunday afternoon. Of course it wasn’t a real episode, but rather a preview of the new season. Because they titled it the same, called it new and stuck it in the middle of day, my Tivo recorded it. Sneaky. But smart….
