Aha! Amateur web sleuths used tracking software to determine that email sent from a lonelygirl15 account originated from the offices of Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency. The CAA said it could “neither confirm nor deny” whether the agency is representing whoever is behind the lonelygirl15 video on YouTube. Other talent agencies and production companies, when asked, flat out deny their involvement. As we mentioned a couple weeks ago, many have believed all along that lonelygirl15’s heartfelt videos are just an elaborate hoax. Looks like they may be right. (Via Fimoculous)

One of the big upsides of News Corp’s acquisition of MySpace and IGN is the ability to promote Fox TV shows to key younger audiences. Fox is taking full advantage of the relationship with a blow-out promotion for this Sunday’s season premiere of The Simpsons. Not only do they take over the MySpace home page — very expensive real estate — but you can watch the first 7 minutes of the show, sponsored by Burger King. The same preview is available over on Fox.com, and there are other promotions underway on FoxSports.com on MSN, AskMen.com and RottenTomatoes.com.

In an exclusive partnership with Yahoo, the NFL will stream nearly every game starting this Sunday, but only for people outside of North America. Called NFL Game Pass, the service costs $24.99 per week or $249.99 for the entire 17-week season.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has responded to all the criticism with a post on his blog. “We really messed this one up,” he writes. “Somehow we missed this point with (News Feed) and we didn’t build in the proper privacy controls right away. This was a big mistake on our part, and I’m sorry for it.” So Zuckerberg says the Facebook team has been “coding nonstop for two days” to build better privacy controls that allow users wide control to decide what information makes the News Feed. “This may sound silly, but I want to thank all of you who have written in and created groups and protested. Even though I wish I hadn’t made so many of you angry, I am glad we got to hear you,” he writes. As I mentioned yesterday, it’s a big learning experience for any social network or predominately user-generated content site: listen and collaborate with your users BEFORE you launch new stuff. (Thanks for the tip Dave!)

Yes, single day ratings in the long battle that is network news are really not that significant, but they’re certainly interesting. Thursday night, CBS Evening News with Katie Couric pulled a 6.4/13 compared to ABC’s 5.3/11 and NBC’s 5.3/10. Evening News had a 9.1/17 on Tuesday and 7.0/15 on Wednesday.
