Big break in lonelygirl15 mystery?

Cory Bergman September 8th, 2006

Aha! Amateur web sleuths used tracking software to determine that email sent from a lonelygirl15 account originated from the offices of Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency. The CAA said it could “neither confirm nor deny” whether the agency is representing whoever is behind the lonelygirl15 video on YouTube. Other talent agencies and production companies, when asked, flat out deny their involvement. As we mentioned a couple weeks ago, many have believed all along that lonelygirl15’s heartfelt videos are just an elaborate hoax. Looks like they may be right. (Via Fimoculous)

Am I the only one that noticed the LA Times piece contradicts itself?

“On the message boards, discussions revolved around the single shoot theory: that the videos must have been filmed in one batch, because they gave little or no nod to the furor erupting around them”

    Then..

“Tuesday night, lonelygirl15 posted a sexually tinged video titled “Poor Pluto,” in which Bree bemoans the demotion of Pluto to sub-planetary status.”

So why did LAT mention that theory if it doesn’t actually hold true?

Lonelygirl15’s revelation: It’s all just part of the show
By Richard Rushfield, Times Staff Writer
    September 9, 2006

LA Times updated the story…. no longer a mystery…

“The latest confession to stun the entertainment world is an unusual one: “We are filmmakers.”

The team behind the lonelygirl15 YouTube mystery has come forward, claiming that lonelygirl15 is part of their “show” and thanking their fans effusively for tuning in to “the birth of a new art form.” They are not, they insisted, “a big corporation.”"

[...] As many suspected, the young YouTube phenomenon known as lonelygirl15 has all been fake, according to an admission posted by “The Creators” just a day after a story revealed a connection to a Hollywood agency. “Thank you so much for enjoying our show so far,” the admission begins. “With your help we believe we are witnessing the birth of a new art form.” The post on the lonelygirl15 forum explains they are filmmakers that “aren’t a big corporation.” As for Bree, the young “homeschooled” girl, the filmmakers would only say this about her identity: “Lonelygirl15 is a reflection of everyone. She is no more real or fictitious than the portions of our personalities that we choose to show (or hide) when we interact with the people around us.” Yeah, ok, thank you. While I admit the whole sordid affair was quite brilliant, the news guy in me doesn’t like the idea of being lied to in the name of art. But I’m sure others will have a different take… [...]

Now really, everyone is getting all worked up over some video blog. Sounds to me there are alot of knights on white horses trying to save the day.( its not a hoax1). I say, go read a good book, or watch a movie, but remember it is what it is, a story! just like most blogs on the web!
I liked it, thought is was interesting, but I also knew it was some video on the web for entertainment!(key word (”entertainment”). For the news guy who hates being lied to. Well, now you know the feeling!
