Editorial: Nancy’s disgrace

It’s too easy to blame Nancy Grace for the suicide of Melinda Duckett. Nancy didn’t kill her. But Ms. Duckett’s death was an assisted suicide, and although Nancy will not own up to it, her aggressive, irresponsible grilling of a clearly unstable woman played a role in this sickening drama. The death of a guest on a news talk show was inevitable, just as surely as it happened on “Jenny Jones” before. I hope CNN will take this opportunity to examine “The Nancy Grace Show” and its role in journalism. It could be something it is not: a thoughtful examination of meaningful legal issues. Instead, a woman is dead, her missing child still missing, and the media takes another hit for ruining a life in the name of ratings.
There is a delusion on Nancy’s show that the ends justify the means. Melinda Duckett was not prepared for what lay ahead. She got a world-class cross examination without the benefit of counsel. She was jumped. It’s true, she knew she was going on TV. But how many people in the midst of a crime - whether they perpetrated it or not - are in their right mind for a grilling on international television? Melinda Duckett didn’t kill herself because of that interview. But surely it was, if not the last straw, a straw high on the haystack.
Nancy protests that “Melinda committed suicide before that interview ever aired. It had never gone to air.” A straw man argument if ever there was one. Melinda killed herself just hours before the show aired on Friday, September 8th. She knew it was coming, and she knew she was about to look like a fool in front of a worldwide audience. For anyone, that’s a lot to handle.
I can hear the Nancy supporters cry now: “Melinda did it! She obviously killed the son! She was in the middle of a messy divorce and didn’t sound truthful!” I have no sympathy for child killers. None. But it doesn’t matter. Any lawyer will advise you against doing or saying anything that could give a whiff of self-incrimination. Look at the ceaseless attacks on the Ramseys. And even if “Melinda did it,” that’s for a court to determine, and not TV news. Nancy Grace considers herself the judge and the jury. She brings on psychiatrists and “experts” to back up her opinion. Where were Melinda’s experts for the defense?
The irresponsible use of her pulpit is staggering. Nancy’s obsession with “Did you take a polygraph? Why won’t you take a polygraph?” is a populist absurdity. A polygraph test is banned in some jurisdictions, is only admissible at the discretion of the judge in others, and has long been proven to be unreliable especially in times of stress. It is only definitive in Nancy’s kangaroo court.
The devotion of prime time space to the search for missing children is admirable. I love that CNN has dedicated time to that. But I also have a suspicion the motives are not wholly selfless. If Nancy’s show were not a ratings-grabber, the dedication to missing children would move on. If my child were missing, I would do everything I could to get a second of air time on any outlet that would have me. I just wouldn’t go on with Nancy Grace.
On Monday, September 11th, she gave most of her show to the Duckett case again. Did Nancy do the right thing by saying “We feel terrible about what happened, and we send our sympathy to the Duckett family at this time of still another tragedy”? Nope. About midway through she begged off any responsibility for Melinda Duckett’s death: “I do not feel that our show is to blame for what happened to Melinda Duckett. The truth.. is not always nice or polite or easy to go down. Sometimes it`s harsh, and it hurts.”
The truth is that this show could be a great forum for discussing the legal ideas of the day. Instead it is a tabloid show that disguises its mission in self-righteousness.

Nancy Grace gets a 0.1 A25-54 rating. No one was gonna see that interview anyway…

Since the missing child isn’t white, blond, and female, the mother basically HAD to go on the show to try to get some media coverage. It’s only pretty blond white girls who get media coverage automatically.(JonBenet…Natalee…Samantha Runnion….etc., etc., etc.)
Nancy Grace is a sadist. She should don leather boots and a whip and get her kicks some other way.

No, I’m sorry but CNN taking a look at this would be an afront to free speech. I mean after all doesn’t Nancy Grace have the right to behave unethically. Just bcause a few nut jobs complain about it, we just should ignore this all. (tongue firmly impanted in cheek)

amen steve
the arrogance of ms. grace….for a woman that inserts herself in every dialogue about every case ….when asked if she felt any responsibility for pushing the girl over the edge…she responds…”i dont feel OUR show….”…..instead of the usual me..my..and ..i ..that flows oh so freely from her lips.
ethics indeed
.this is a show ..that depends on ratings….nancy over emotes about every dead sodier and missing child …and yet she had no sensitivity to the agony of a 21 year old girl who had not yet been made a suspect.
there are a few hundred brilliant attorneys standing in line for her
job……..
i wont miss her obnoxious behavior or voice

YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY..”IF YOU CAN’T RUN WITH THE BIG DOGS..STAY ON THE PORCH!.
DON’T GO ON NANCY GRACE IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE QUESTIONS…NANCY GRACE JUST STATED WHAT THE POLICE COULD’NT.

The woman waited until right before the show aired to kill herself- coincidence? strange timing?
9. NoahsMOM | September 15th, 2006 at 4:13 pm
melindas family is trying to blame someone for this happening. I thiknk they should not blame Nancy Grace…she was doing what she does….as a mother Melinda should have done what a good mohter does…..put effort into finding your missing child. Now I heard there is a website out saying fire NG…www.firenancygrace.com….which is just plain BS!!! NG didnt vanish her child, NG didnt pull the trigger, NG didnt influence her own childs kidnapping or vanishing. So “fire or blame” the person responsible. I hope CNN is not that ridiculous to fire NG.

I only have two words for this fiasco:
“NANCY disGRACEful”
Nothing more needs to be said.

What’s not being reported IS that the mother had made several suicide attempts in the past. EVEN to the point of her child being taken by Child Services. Did Grace have a hand in her final demise…I think not. The woman held her own destiny.

What is also NOT being said is that the childs father Josh ABANDONED Mindy AND her Son. Josh abused MIn. Josh did not support his child forcing Min to work 3 jobs to support herself and Trent.
Those of us who knew Min KNOW she could not have harmed her Son. She lived for that child. There is little doubt she was very upset the focus had come off finding Trent and on to Her. I suspect she felt that by removing herself, the focus would go back to finding Trent which is what she wanted all along. Her final sacrifice to her Son.

Melinda Duckett isn’t the only interview Nancy has done. On my blog, I write about the interview she did with Karen Riojas. I also write about the sophisticated anti-fundamentalist Christian Church on Park Ave in Manhattan that Nancy attends. But for this discussion, I’ll post my article
A Moving Interview
In an elegiac, lyrical voice of mourning, Karen Riojas recounted her experience of being told by police that a hunter had found the remains of her daughter, Michelle Bullard.
Nancy just let her talk. No music. No questions. Just silence, as we all had the privilege of listening to the mother of a murdered child wish for her daughter’s proper burial.
Ms. Riojas didn’t know why anyone gets chosen, but this had definitely been a horrific, torturing year for her. “When I was young, my life centered totally around my children, but as they grew older, they didn’t need mama as much as they once did. Michelle had her own life. I would have cherished some more of my free time with her, and not having been so busy, caught up in my own life. But, Nancy, I do appreciate you not letting go. You told me you were not going to let this go.”
Sharing feeling at this level of emotion, never letting a missing child go, never giving up, always having the lighted candle in the window. This is what Nancy’s show is really about, and why so many love her.
It was a beautiful interview, which taught us all about the dignity of mothers who bear the ultimate loss.

Hopefully the new wrongful death lawsuit against Nancy Grace will show all the 24 hour news organizations that non-jourrnalistic tabloid idiody (in the name of jourrnalism) has no place on television. Nancy Grace and her counterparts on all the other netoworks do not deserve the money and air time they get. They are money grabbing crooks with no ethics or morals. No one needed the grilling that Melinda Duckett recieved. Regardless of how they live or what they do to make money. It was pure trash TV and it should be taked off the air.

Nancy Grace is going to Hell for sure, no doubt at all. Nancy has victimized tooooooooooo many victims already. She needs some time in prison for her crimes Nancy has perpetrated against victims. Because Nancy was never a victim herself, she has no clue at all. Nancy “claims” she was a victim before, but the facts are that Nancy has never been a victim of a crime. Her fiancé was, but not Nancy. And, Nancy was never even related to Keith (her fiancé). Nancy should expect to pay huge in the lawsuits filed against her by Melinda’s parents. What Nancy contributed to, resulting in the death of Melinda IS a crime. Things are finally catching up to Nancy. Hope Nancy’s TV-replacement will cover Nancy’s incarceration down the road, and maybe criticize what Nancy gets served for meals while Nancy is in prison. We will be sure to tune into that show.
17. Bobbi Avery | November 29th, 2006 at 11:45 pm
Michelle from Madison you actually expect someone
to go to prison for asking ‘tough’ questions? Shame on
you. You need to get a hobby of some type, you evidently
have too much time on your hands to even come up
with that notion. Nancy Grace is a bit rought on her
guests and commentators at times. There are times I
wish she would let people finish there statements
of cutting them off. There are times I feel she is a bit
rude to guests. But I will tell you this, if ever I were in
need of an attorney, I would want one as tough and
unafraid as she is. Melinda was a liar in every
aspect of her life. What is so tough about the
question..”Where were you and Trenton at that
day”? The police and FBI did not tell Melinda not to
divulge that information. They wanted the imformation
She tries to blame Josh for the disapearance of
Trenton., can’t remember what he went to bed in?
Who puts their child to bed in his shoes? The emails
she said Josh wrote her threatening her and Trenton
Then they find out she wrote them to herself. I wish
people would start focusing on little Trenton. This
crusade of poor Melinda is stupid.
You don’t like Nancy Grace……..don’t watch her shows!
It’s really that simple. Focus all the energy thats
being wasted trying to burn Nancy Grace at the
stake on something positive. Volunteer your free
time at homeless shelters, abused children homes,
etc.

Bobby Avery, you are a clear example of why Nancy Grace is so dangerous to active police investigations and to non-convicted victims. Dealing with only certain select-elements of a potential crime and not looking at all the pieces of a puzzel is why pople continue to be harmed and sometimes die as a direct result of Nancy’s documented unprofessional conduct. Which, by the way, is some of the reasons Nancy was thrown out of Atlanta and why Nancy cannot practice Law anymore in any of the 50 states. Select-Justice is not true justice for victims, yet Nancy continues to victimize more and more non-convicted victims. Perhaps the authorities should steer their direction out to that scumbag-of-a-dad Josh who has violated court orders in the Duckett case already. He is a pathetic excuse for a father if I have ever seen one. Hopefully trenton is safe and sound over in Korea and away from that scumbag Josh.

Nancy Grace was proven wrong again on Wednesday April 11th after the charges were all dropped against all of the Duke Lacrosse players. Nancy was wrong again on all assertions Nancy has made about this case, and she will be facing more lawsuits against herself for the crimes she committed against the non-convictism victims of this case too. Turns out that Howard Stern of the Anna Nichol case is also going to file another suit against Nancy for her crimes of character-assassinations Nancy did against Stern according to his attorney. Even the attorney of Joran VanderSloot of the Natalee Holloway case has mentioned filing another suit against Nancy as well for the crimes Nancy committed against Joran. Better bring your checkbook Nancy, you are going to have to pay hugely on your continued crimes against non-convicted victims. Perhaps it might be cheaper for Nancy to simply stop victimizing victims.
30. Michelle from Madison | April 23rd, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Nancy Grace was proven wrong again on Monday April 23rd from all of Nancy’s assertions that KENNETH GLENN HINSON was guilty of crimes including kidnappings, sex crimes, and assault with intent to kill two teen girls in an underground bunker located in Darlington, South Carolina last year. Remember Nancy’s unfounded rants?
After Nancy Grace pummeled, ridiculed, slandered, and defamed Hinson on multiple shows aired by Nancy Grace/CNN, the court jurors acquitted Hinson today of above charges that Nancy Grace implied repeatedly Hinson was guilty of. Hinson was facing the possibility of a life sentence without parole, and Nancy had conveyed her apparent desire that a death sentence against Hinson may be more appropriate for Hinson.
But, sorry Nancy Grace, one has to found guilty of those crimes before those measures can indeed be taken. Nancy, is wrong again. It appears that the only crime and miscarriage of justice committed in this matter was the coverage of the case by Nancy Grace. It is suspected that Nancy Grace will need more direct-counseling, more “damage-control measures”, and possible more medications for the stresses Nancy is experiencing being proven wrong over and over and nearly every single day Nancy Grace broadcasts a show through CNN.
Get your checkbook ready Nancy, you are certainly going to be writing some big checks soon to help cover some of these upcoming lawsuits against you. Hinson’s defense attorney, Rick Hoefer, will likely soon sue Nancy Grace and CNN of even more civil crimes that Nancy Grace has documented against herself.
The upcoming lawsuits against Nancy Grace, alleging Nancy committing crimes against a suicide victim and estate, against all the Duke Lacrosse defendants, and against victims like Joran VanderSloot of the Natalee Holloway case are just a few upcoming lawsuits that will be filed soon against Nancy Grace and CNN according to many defense attorneys and blogs.
It is clear that CNN Management does not even bother to watch any of Nancy’s shows. If they did, they would never allow Nancy Grace to ever be around any victim of any crime. Nor would they allow her to commit more crimes against more victims as Nancy continues to document against herself. How CNN can allow this unprofessional misconduct by Nancy Grace to continue to occur is beyond all sensible and rational reasoning. To make some money-profits over the best interests of victims is not a choice most well-educated and caring people would choose.
31. Michelle from Madison | April 24th, 2007 at 6:37 pm
Nancy Grace was proven wrong again on all of her assertions on the Winkler case on Thursday April 19th. Doesn’t CNN management ever watch Nancy’s shows anymore?
Nancy Grace has documented herself to be incorrect, in some fashion, on just about every single case Nancy has attempted to cover over the recent months. While Nancy continues to rack up more potential lawsuit cases against herself and CNN for her continued defamation, slander, libel, and even the wrongful death Nancy is currently linked to by Nancy’s own possible illegal actions, it is well documented that Nancy Grace is not un-willing to commit even more such crimes against even more and more victims.
Some Courts have already reprimanded Nancy Grace for some of her documented misconduct. But, Nancy continues to rack up more and more violations of Civil Law, and possibly even Criminal Law too, and it is hard to keep up with the continued violations-count, and her seemingly constant violations Nancy has been committing against victim after victim after victim.
The Lawsuits that are soon to be coming from VanderSloot, Howard Stern of the Anna Nichol Smith case, and others against Nancy infractions (according to the attorneys) and the upcoming Lawsuits from all the Duke defendants, as well as possibly from Winkler herself according to her attorney Ferese, Nancy’s continued law violations appear to be occurring on nearly every single day Nancy is on television.
My goodness, Don Imus just lost his job for stating something that could, in-fact, may have been a factual and accurate statement by his derogatory statements towards the women’s basketball team. How CNN can allow Nancy to document even more violations against even more and more victims is just senseless and a total shame for CNN to just stand by and allow this irreprehensible behavior to continue against more and more victims from Nancy Grace. It is truly just ridiculous. Perhaps it is time to change from CNN to broadcasting Nancy Grace on something like comedy central where her conduct more appropriates is representative.
Has CNN already forgotten that Nancy Grace has current lawsuits filed against her for Nancy’s role in the death of a non-convicted victim who Nancy Grace had called on the telephone? Wake up CNN, Imus had to apparently be removed from the airways, and he wasn’t even directly involved in connection of someone’s death. Nor was Imus continuing to victimize more victims as Nancy has documented that she is continuing.
Maybe you, CNN, can provide the public with the “magic number” CNN feels is the appropriate-limit that Nancy has to achieve with her slanderous, libelous, her connections to a possible wrongful death actions Nancy has documented against another victim(s), and her defamational statements against victims before CNN will take similar actions as MSNBC had to do towards Don Imus.
Everyone will be anxious to hear what the “magic number” CNN will tolerate as the group of victims of Nancy Grace grows and grows from her illegal, immoral, and illicit conduct towards so many victims.
And, how can CNN allow a person like Nancy Grace to be around any true victim at Virginia Tech while Nancy has current lawsuits filed against her for Nancy’s alleged involvement in an early death of a emotionally distraught young mother. The management of CNN needs some serious investigation-measures to be implemented immediately, for the safety of current and potential future victims of the unprofessional conduct of Nancy Grace.
How CNN can allow Nancy Grace to have any access to victims at Virginia Tech is a matter that should, perhaps, be investigated by the authorities and by attorneys for the potential victims of her unprofessional conduct. There is a reason Nancy Grace has lawsuits pending against her, with more lawsuits expected in the near future. For CNN to allow Nancy Grace to have contact with any victim is a crime in and of itself, and needs further consideration by the authorities and by attorneys for the victims sake and safety. Allowing Nancy Grace to have access to any victim is like placing a Predator
near a schoolyard while the trial is ongoing for the alleged Predator. It should just not happen.

Nancy Grace forgot to mention on her Thursday May 10th show that she was kicked off COURT-TV for the rest of the season and will not return anymore. Oops, guess Nancy forgot to mention the facts of things again.
Instead, Nancy made assertions that Paris Hilton may need a sentence like a death sentence for committing a couple of minor driving offenses. Wait a minute, Nancy committed crimes far more severe than that of Paris before the city of Atlanta threw Nancy out on her butt and took away her ability to ever practice Law anymore anywhere in the 50 states of the United States. Almost sounds hypocritical, doesn’t it?
Ohh wells, at least Nancy got booted off the air, at least on that show. It’s a start, and perhaps after all the lawsuits that numerous defense attorneys are claiming will be slammed against Nancy Grace, maybe then Nancy will be totally off the air to the welcomed relief of all the victims both still alive and those that Nancy has had a part in their demise.
Nancy Grace has defamed, slandered, libeled, twisted facts, harassed, and so on and so on towards non-convicted victims. Nancy actually may be eligible for some incarceration time by the end of all of this, according to some attorneys. But, at least the “process” has finally materialized.
Her downfall truly began earlier this year after Court-TV removed Nancy from several days of coverage and limited her involvement in and with Court-TV. Plus, CNN has contractually, since last year, mandated that Nancy Grace can never be on any CNN broadcast without at least one of her Psychologists, Psychiatrists, or other doctors present on the set. Good for them.
At least they are beginning to recognize the dangers of Nancy’s victimizations that have already cost more than one victim their life. Finally CNN, go get ‘er. No more victims deserve to be victimized by Nancy Grace, and no more people need to lose their life as a direct result of any involvement with Nancy Grace.

Nancy Grace was proven wrong, again, on her Tuesday July 24th show. She was actually torn up by her guests tonight, all of her guests, as she was verbally-battered and made to appear the fool Nancy Grace has documented herself to be. Ouch. My goodness, that show was a tough one for Nancy. Perhaps Nancy will never bring up the name of LINDSAY LOHAN again, at least not until the lawsuit(s) have been filed by Lohan’s attorney in an upcoming lawsuits for defamation by Grace against another non-convicted victim. Nancy did state that she herself wants to go to a rehab facility that can treat alcoholism and drug addictions, which is a good recognition made again by Predator Grace. She further stated that she plans to move into “Promises Treatment Facility,” and hopefully she will do that soon. Good for you Nancy, get some help for your documented problems. Sounds like Nancy should try maybe about 5 years or so of inpatient treatment to help her with her acknowledged alcoholism and other addictions. Good luck Nancy, the victims could surely benefit from the break when you are again “incarcerated.” Tonight’s show emphasized, again, why this is part of the reasons why Predator Nancy Grace has lawsuits pending against her right now in both State and Federal Courts, with more suits expected soon by other non-convicted persons vilified by Predator Grace like the Duke Lacrosse team. Let alone all those cases she lost over the recent years while she has been an employee of Court-TV and CNN. It is no wonder why Court-TV fired her butt recently. And, it is no wonder why Nancy Grace was thrown out of Atlanta years ago, and why she can no longer ever practice Law anymore anywhere within any of the 50 states of the United States. Perhaps a better approach for this fat idiot might be to simply stop victimizing more victims. With more lawsuits expected against Predator Grace in the near future, it is clear why she does not possess the mental capacity to even host a show of any kind. Her CNN-mandated psychological treatment does not appear to be working.
35. Michelle from Madison | October 23rd, 2007 at 6:17 pm
Nancy really came across as the drunk she is on her Tuesday Oct 23rd show. She even had on about 2 pounds-too-much make-up on again, apparently trying again to hide some possible self-inflicted injuries like that one site described before. Seems like all of her pending Lawsuits may be taking an emotional-toll against this Predator. Nancy also made many major-errors in the cases she covered, and many of her guests tore Nancy up again with their accounts of the facts that Nancy did not know. You would think that Nancy should be sober, if not just for the twin’s sake and their best interests. Still not sure why that CNN-employee said Nancy has to pay call-in’s to read a pre-made script to praise Nancy at a cost of $375.00 a piece.
36. jbaers1185@hotmail.com | January 17th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
I saw this cool post from Michelle from Madison where she hit the nail on the head in this post.
“Not only was Nancy drinking all the time, she was even photographed drinking while she was pregnant, and she even was opening up her Bud Lights while on the air while she was pregnant and doing her show recently. Plus, she took a ton of fertility-medications in order to get pregnant. For someone that old, she’s almost 50, that alone could result in catastrophic complications for those poor little victim-twins. If her alcoholism-problems were not enough, Nancy subjected those twins to the possible complications of those medications, plus her repeated hospital visits were reportedly due to complications consistent with old-mothers, and drug and alcohol abuse. Finally, when the hospital forcibly ripped those twins away from her, it was clearly the signs and symptoms of her documented problems with both drugs and alcohol. Hopefully her file has been sent over to the Prosecutor’s office for review for possible criminal charges.”
