Couric drives CBSNews.com traffic

Cory Bergman September 15th, 2006

Unique users to CBSNews.com for the first week of Katie Couric’s debut were up 57 percent over the previous week. “CBS News First Look,” Couric’s web-exclusive video, served up 100,000 streams over the same time period. The “Couric and Co.” blog received 4,000 emails and 4,000 comments, as well as 38,000 suggestions for a signature sign-off line. “The results of the first week are very encouraging,” said Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports. “We’re working hard to make sure that the online and wireless audiences are served with strong, distinctive news programming.” Meanwhile, MSNBC.com fired out a press release that touted the site “beat CBSNews.com by 9.5 million unique visitors” over the same week.

It was interesting to note Katies reference to students debts. However, as I have a son going to college, I sold my home to help him meet expenses. So far the cost is well over 40,000 0r so and climbing. I can’t live with my son, because his lifestyle is not anywhere close to my own, plus his friends come first and me last if at all. I’m homeless, I come to his apartment to go see my doctor at the VA medical center, after which I leave. I live on part of my social security money and pay his bills with the rest. I pay for my medicare and medigap insurance out of it. Everything I own in this world is in a storage unit for him, because I know I can no longer afford a house. I just move around and live where I can. I hate George Bush Jr. and Sr for driving this country into debt, and committing U.S. young men to fight a useless war. I worked with these people in the Middleast for a very long time.( years ) There is no reasoning with them. They will continue to fight each other and kill each other when we are dead and gone. It’s a useless waste of resources and lives. We should be paying for the education of our youth instead of spending such an enormous amount of money in the middleast. I have to ask myself,”does the government of America, care about Americans”? I’m 68 and will soon be 68. I pray to god to end my suffering here on this earth. I worked so hard and done without, and I have to ask myself,”why”?All I ever wanted was to retire, live in a comfortable house and have a boat to go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
