NBC promo goes meta on YouTube

Cory Bergman September 22nd, 2006

It’s a promo on YouTube featuring NBC’s “Bill the promo guy” talking about all the reasons why we shouldn’t hate NBC for putting promos on YouTube. Some very funny one-liners like, “Friday Night Lights on Tuesdays, THAT’s not confusing.” Says one person who left a comment after watching it, “I just watched a commercial. On YouTube. Shit.”

I was actually amused by this promo when I watched it while on YouTube last night. It was clearly a promo, yet still had enough humor to keep my attention.

I wouldn’t be putting it on my blog though, so no viral aspect to it.

It’s the most viewed clip on YouTube today by far. 250,000 impressions for free…not bad NBC.

For free? What makes you think that? Since it appeared on every page of YouTube I can’t imagine it wasn’t paid for.

It’s too bad “Kidnapped” was far too derivative and I really don’t expect to last more than a couple of episodes. It’s doubly too bad because I was so looking forward to watching Ms Delany again.

Is she wearing tight cotton t-shirts again or something?

Wow, that’s kinda funny in a santized corporate way. I think I’ll show it to our Marketing Manager so I can watch her head explode.

Calm down now. NBC needs all the help they can get.

“But people won’t watch commercials! They’ll fast forward through our promos! Our whole model is ruined!”

Proof that change and competition can even make ads better. Very funny. Gets the point across well, and they didn’t even stick to promoting comedies. (”What do you mean you’re going to do a funny promo for Kidnapped?”)

And I love anonymous’s comment. I’ve said it before: Too many people confuse a sense of humor with a lack of seriousness.
