Fox News’ lost opportunity with Clinton
Cory Bergman September 24th, 2006
President Bill Clinton’s interview on Fox News Sunday is spreading like wildfire around the internet. (If you haven’t seen it yet, Clinton became upset when asked about bin Laden. “So you did Fox’s bidding on this show,” he told host Chris Wallace. “You did your nice little conservative hit job on me.”) Clearly, this is a viral video if there ever was one, yet the relaunched FoxNews.com dropped the ball. Yes, it’s displaying the story and video prominently. But there’s no way to email, link or embed the video. So what did Drudge and a fair share of blogs do? Linked YouTube’s clips of the interview, not FoxNews.com. So far, the first YouTube clip of the bunch as been viewed 988,000 times. A couple others are in the 200,000 range and counting. (And this is as of Sunday night.) You can bet FoxNews.com’s clip of the video isn’t even close. And they can’t blame YouTube — just themselves for the lost opportunity. Update: “Johnny Dollar” in comments correctly points out that there’s a little email graphic under each clip that allows you to send video to a friend. But it’s TINY and not associated with the clip that’s playing.

Yep, Fox doesn’t get it which is wierd looking at what they are doing with MySpace. These kind of interviews should just be given away - simple branding excercise. I see you label Chris Wallace as a host. That’s right. Clinton wipes th floor with him.

If I’m not mistaken, the just rephrased a question Jon Stewart asked him earlier in the week, whether he can do more good as a former president or acting president.
Of course “Jon Stewart” was switched with “Someone”

You leftwing knuckle-draggers are too much.
If FNC was ready for an online viewing onslaught you would’ve been foaming at the mouth about a vast right-wing setup.
The only hitjob in the video was done by Willy, and it made him look petty. Also for future reference, Richard Clarke’s book is not a good source to prop up Bill’s pitiful legacy.
Finally, the angry act doesn’t go over very well with women, in fact it repells them. So finally they’re starting to see the real Clinton….
PS. The media story of the year will be just how poorly the Dems do in Nov, and this is in spite of the drive-by journalism that our media industry has become.

The hypocrisy of someone that both defends Fox News and blasts the media industry is absolutely staggering.
And yes, Fox is crazy not to offer both their edited and the full, unedited interviews online.

Charlie’s clearly out of jail and off his meds - meaning back to normal. Good to have you back, Charlie, as neo Nazi and off topic as ever!! Keep on truckin!

Nice ref, Mitch. But does Godwin refer to “neo,” too?

I thought it was a legitimate question and I was really unimpressed at how Clinton addressed it. Still fighting that vast right wing conspiracy, eh Bill? I believe the truth is probably the closest to the simplest answer … he screwed up.. It happened a lot, and the media didn’t jump on him like they do Bush.. Other than his oral issues - got a pass during his 8 yrs.
Clinton failed to address the terrorist events that occurred during his tenure with nothing more than “lip service”.. Something he probably knows a lot about.. The issues weren’t addressed until the could no longer be ignored, it just didn’t happen while he was in charge.
I consider myself a moderate, but I’m tired of Clinton the victim..

You’re clearly another neo-nazi !!!
How dare you post a thoughtful comment.
Liberals, can’t live with them, and you still can’t shoot’em, but after the election, who knows what could happen with continued Republican domination.
Bottomline in TV interviews (and this is media 101, btw) is that the first guy to lose his cool losses the debate.

“there’s no way to email, link or embed the video.”
There’s an email icon next to all three parts of the video. You can’t embed it, but you can email it AND link it.

Where? On the pop up player? Because I certainly can’t find it.
12. johnny dollar | September 25th, 2006 at 2:00 pm
Click on any video. When the pop-up player window appears there are all the the different videos you can view at the bottom, with a list of categories on the left. There’s an email icon at the bottom of each video shown. You can email a link with that icon, and you can use that link in, say, a blog posting. You’ll find an email link for the video that you’re playing there too, since it’s always in the group that appears in that spot.

[...] That was until Fox got jealous and insisted that it be removed. This is a perfect demonstration of a corporate media megalith misunderstanding the new media playing field. And it also underscores the necessity of keeping Internet media independent. Just imagine the kind of censorship that would prevail if Fox owned YouTube (or if Viacom, who is currently sniffing around it, did). [...]

Ooooh, THAT’S what that is. A little email icon.
Thanks for pointing it out, although it’s practically invisible.

Charlie,
Me, thoughtful? Not possible. But I did expect better from the former leader of the free world… Actually, I expected better from him during his 8 yrs in office.
“Its all a Right Wing Conspiracy orchestrated by Karl Rove, I did not have sex with that women, Ms. Lewinsky……Ken Starr is out to get me… If I could’ve gotten Osama I would have.. Blah Blah Blah”
How did I ever join the vast right wing conspiracy? Most of my fellow right wingers make me cringe! Pat Robertson, please, SHUT UP.

I emailed the clip to about 10 friends from the fox site. Worked for me.
Great segment. Looks like the reaction from the former president was pre-planned if you ask me. Reminds me of time the 1st Bush president walked pushed back on Dan Rather in the 80’s.

[...] On Monday, we criticized FoxNews.com for not making the Bill Clinton interview video linkable and shareable. Clips of the interview were exploding in traffic on YouTube, in part due to a Drudge link, and some of the Fox News talent were even referencing the YouTube clips instead of FoxNews.com on the air. Then we learned that FoxNews.com demanded that YouTube pull the clips down. And then today, Fox News admitted it was all just a big mistake. “Our Internet division used poor judgment in asking this to be taken down,” reads a statement from Fox News. “We’re thrilled the Wallace-Clinton clip has received so many hits on YouTube.” And all the clips are back. Good grief. [...]
