Suit blames video game for Donaldson ranch slayings
Cory Bergman September 25th, 2006
The family members of three people who were killed on Sam Donaldson’s New Mexico ranch are suing the makers of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, blaming the game for compelling the teen accused in the killings to pull the trigger. The $600 million suit claims Cody Posey played the “virtual reality murder simulator” obsessively and learned “how to point and shoot a gun in a fashion making him an extraordinarily effective killer.” Not that I think it’s a good idea for teens to play GTA until their fingers bleed, but what about the claims that his father had abused him for years? Hmmm.

When Albuquerque television contacted Cody’s lawyer, he put the blame back onto the abuse. We had advance word because the plaintiffs had contacted the media and everything that I’m seeing from NM is that this is just an attempt for the family to get some cash. It also should be noted that Verlin testfied on behalf of the prosecution and the rest of his family made no secret of their opposition to Cody. He may also be of their flesh and blood, but there’s no love lost between them and it appears that he’s not a party to this suit.

Can we get a videogame that’s a virtual reality freedom and common sense simulator?
