The new Slingboxes: now in HD

CNet reviews the new flavors of Slingbox, including one that works with HDTV. The verdict? A good product made better. CNet gives Slingbox an 8.3. At a recent seminar I attended, cable MSO execs pooh-poohed “placeshifting.” Just like they dismissed timeshifting. At what point does old media get tired of being wrong? Ever?

I had a slingbox before selling it on ebay. Yes, it worked, but I would really need to be hard up to watch tv this way. The quality just isn’t there…and I’m even talking about fast speeds on my internal lan. On the internet, at 512 up it really sucks. Yes, it does work as advertised, but the bandwidth is a big limitation.

well, what did you think, it was going to look just as good as a regular broadcast? Ive played with them in the past but didnt really have a need for it. Instead I would just run windows media services and stream a feed from my box with a tv tuner installed and change channels remotely if needed.

I’d love to have one while traveling overseas but with 384kbps upload, at best, from Comcast it just doesn’t do it for me
Now, Verizon Fios would probably work the best since at 1000kbps the picture is at cable digital channel quality
