Stick this in your PC and record HDTV

The Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro Stick plugs in to your USB port and can record HDTV right on to your hard drive. It’s about the size of a USB WiFi adapter. For $129, it beats the heck out of a $800 TiVo Series 3, and also claims to save directly to DVD, iPod or Sony PSP formats. And if you’re fortunate enough to live in an area with a decent signal, you can even grab it free over-the-air. I have not tried the product, but when it’s available for the Mac (which the company says is coming) I sure will.

    This technology is availalable right now on Mac. It’s called EyeTV from El Gato. The EyeTV hybrid is the one that is similar to the Pinnacle. I’m sure you are aware of this already.

    I know the product you refer to - I have an older Eye TV. There are significant differences. EyeTV is not a native HD product. And it is significantly larger than the Pinnacle.

    Nice but it probably uses the computer’s CPU while recording

    if that’s the case good luck recording 1920×1080i even 1280×720 broadcasts

    I believe the El Gato hybrid is the same device made in the same factory in China. They look identicle and seem to have all of the same features. The El Gato has both an HD and an ntsc tuner. To record HD you need either a dual Power PC G5 or an intel core duo or better.

    I have a Fusion HDTV card and I record HDTV all the time directly to my hard drive. Most are 1280×720 programs off-air network stuff. The pictures and playback are awesome. I’m using a DELL 24 inch monitor to watch the material. My cpu is a Pentium 4. I am able to record in the background (silent mode) and use my computer as usual with no performance downgrade.
