Using technology to fake sick
Steve Safran October 5th, 2006
Ah, sick days. Or, I should write “sick days.” The biggest problem with calling in sick is the strategy of how to sound on the phone. Do you cough? Too obvious. Have your spouse/significant other make the call? Lame. CNet points us to Call In Sick, a free service that lets you record a sick call before you go to bed and then makes the call to your boss’s line at, say, 5 a.m. Awkwardness avoided, and you can even stay in bed. Please Note: Lost Remote in no way encourages the dishonest practice of using a company-paid sick day if you are not sick, unless there is a 1 p.m. playoff game.

The problem with faking sick these days, Steve-o, is that you can’t go online at all. You’ve gotta go invisible on your IM client and stay out of Gmail to maintain the ruse. It’s hella annoying.
