let the spin begin!

cbs radio is reporting that "a company that never made a profit" is due to be purchased for a huge amount of money.

their report focused on the lawyer who owns some pictures of either rodney king or some othet melee and is plaintiff against youtube. they are "aiding and abetting and encouraging people to steal someone else's property". the entire piece, while factual, was totally negative.

meanwhile myfoxdetroit.com's launch was the talk of at least a half hour of their morning tv show today. they took great pains to explain what a blog was and even went so far as to use the word "blogosphere"! W-O-W!!!!

big media is going to have to decide, do we continue to deny the future or embrace it?

i guess for today you embrace it if you own it and trash it if you don't.

I'm not sure why Youtube hasn't defended itself from the recent flurry of comments about all the lawsuits that are going to supposedly bury them. As much publicity as they've had, they might need to add some PR help. I've been doing a lot of research on this topic lately, and I'm convinced that Youtube is covered by the DMCA safe harbor. It's interesting that legal experts have not been quoted in any of the articles I have seen about Youtube's copyright issues. If Google is serious about acquiring them, they must feel the same way.

Here's a brilliant idea: Maybe Google should spend more if it's money on making more successful client applications (Gmail, Google Earth), instead of buying out other websites just to make themselves look better. (Not that there's anything that could really make Google Video look any better...)
