  Not too flattering? It’s perfect: human, transparent and completely without pretense. These guys GET it.

  I think it would have been hilarious if they had totally parodied those BS press conferences where there’s lots of PowerPoint and glad-handing and talk about “synergies” and other nonsense. All they had to do was hold up some pie charts.

  This is the perfect way for YouTube to announce this.

  I have a question about this Google/YouTube deal and this may not be the appropriate place for it but I don’t know where else I could ask, so I will here. If this deal is stock only, then how exactly do the YouTube people cash in on it? Is the only way they can make any money if they sell their new Google stock? I know it’s common these days for stock to be traded rather than cash, but I never really understood it. I know this is probably a dumb question to most of you but I’m not that business-savvy. Thanks.

  One thing I find interesting about this clip is that I’ve been using Youtube for over a year now and have never seen a video from Hurley or Chen before, and they choose the sale of the company as the occasion to suddenly try to personally connect with their YouTube audience. Their presentaion makes it seem like they’ve been making little videos like this the whole time. I woud bet that 90% of the users wouldn’t have had a clue who was doing all that giggling if it hadn’t been made so explicit through the title and some of their words. On top of that, for some reason, I found it just a little creepy.

  Donnie: Typically, stock deals carry timelines as to when people can sell. So if I were to buy MacIntyre Inc for 1,000,000 Lost Remote shares, there may be a timeline that says you can’t sell anything for 60 days. Then on day 61 you can sell 20%. Or after one year you can sell 50%. It’s all on how the deal is structured.

  But yes - if you are paid in stock, then that is the only currency you have.

  Yeah, if they revieved 1.6 billion dollars in Google stock that’s easy enough to make liquid in short order.

  If it were me….I’d diversify, but there may be stipulations on how much they can sell and over what period of time.

  And as a side note, comparing the stock prices yesterday and today, their 1.65 billion yesterday is only worth 1.63b today. That’s a one day loss of 15.7 million dollars. (Google had a down day. But just wait until it splits!)

  you would naturally put it in a margin account and at least 1/2 the “REAL” money would be available to you in a day or two.

  you still own the shares but you leverage your investment.
