The Colbert Report’s ‘Green Screen Challenge’ winner

Stephen Colbert has announced the winner of The Colbert Report’s “Green Screen Challenge.” Colbert did a “Star Wars Kid”-inspired lightsaber dance in front of a green screen, and fans have been sending in their video mashups. Here’s the winning entry, “Freedom Fighter,” by “Bonnie R.” from California:

Telling people there’s an appearance by George Lucas ruins it if they haven’t seen it already. Seriously, I almost fell out of my chair when he introduced “George L.”! So funny and unexpectedly awesome.

So what does this mean exactly with respect to copyright issues? Does George see the value of letting people mess around with his product a little?

In the new world, George L. will have to rely like everyone else on whatever buzz can possibly be maintained. I’m sure as he ramps up production on the new Star Wars show, he’s going to want to get input from the most talented 21st century producers. What better way to change his image then to do something that is essentially harmless?
