Colbert demands YouTube royalties

Cory Bergman October 16th, 2006

By Stephen Colbert’s math, Google-YouTube owes him $700 million. “You put my name into YouTube, and you pull up more than 2,600 videos,” he said. “Woo hoo! I am RICH!”

Then what does Google-YouTube owe “The Chinese Backstreet Boys”?

Laugh all you want, but the serious lawsuits are coming.

Is it just me who finds Colbert annoying? His schtick is funny in small doses but for a whole show?

Maybe that’s why he’s so popular in five minute clips on YouTube.

I work in TV news, and to have the one-two punch of “Daily Show”-”Colbert Report” TV news satire is the only thing that helps me get through my day. So, yes, Felix, you’re the only one.

[...] Click on many of the links to Comedy Central clips on YouTube and you’ll get the message, “This video has been removed by the user.” (Do a search and you’ll still find a few, at least for now.) NewsCloud reports that YouTube says it’s been asked by a “third party” under terms of the DMCA to remove clips of the Colbert Report and the Daily Show. Both shows haven’t had an issue with YouTube, well, at least before the Google acquisition. In fact, the Colbert Report has used YouTube in its green screen challenge. And Stephen Colbert has mentioned the site so many times on the air, he recently joked that he was owed $700 million in licensing fees. YouTube has been thriving with Comedy Central content — probably the most widespread TV brand on the site — so this will be the most noticeable content removal to date. And it’s interesting to point out that Comey Central — a Viacom unit — is not going along with CBS’ strategy of forming a strategic partnership with YouTube. (Via Fimoculous) [...]

No, you are not the only one who finds Colbert annoying. In Foley Haggard Nation, where everyone is afraid of Janet Jackson’s breast while Haggard holds weekly meatings with Bush, the Colbert Nation crap is about the most dangerous TV you will find.
