CBS prez blames local news for Katie’s lower ratings

CBS News President Sean McManus says Katie Couric’s ratings are being hurt by her lead-ins - local newscasts. McManus says Dan Rather had the same problem, and says that “If the perception is we should be growing faster, I’d like to, but the fact is we’re not.” Courics numbers for last week should be encouraging - they show 6% growth over Bob Schieffer’s audience from the same time a year ago.

Of course Katie is not to blame. How dare us to even begin to question the Queen of CBS News?

I set my TIVO to get it and watch an hour later,
along with NBC Nightly, the same way.
Who cares what the local station is doing before each.
In Seattle these shows run at 530p and 6p respectively.
Who gets home in time to watch in pattern?

Well, in your town/city where is the CBS affiliate newscast in their evening news ratings?
Here in Chattanooga, our CBS affiliate has been at the bottom of the ratings since the mid 1980’s. Certainly can’t help as a lead-in if you’re only pulling 20, 000 viewers.

I have stopped watching CBS News altogther since Katie Couric stepped in. There is something about watching death and destruction in the Middle East by a news announcer who must try to be sweet.
