Google’s legal team has grown to 100 lawyers, mostly young, tech-savvy experts in intellectual property. And Google will need them an increasing number of companies are considering whether or not to challenge the safe harbor provision and go after YouTube. “People say you can’t fight the government,” said one CEO of a company that sued Google and lost. “Google, in this case, is very similar to the government. They’re the government of the Internet.” Meanwhile, YouTube is beginning to hand over the identities of users who upload copyrighted material to the site.

AOL was once the “government” of the internet. For a couple years, anything eBay did was pure genuis. Then, anything Amazon did was divine. Now, it’s Google’s turn to be idolized for a year or two. They’re the “it” people. So comments like their “government” are to be expected from power-mad people.
(Before you jump all over me… How many CEO’s, sports players, actors, actresses, politicians, etc., have said that after one big break that they have an “unlimited field of options ahead of them”, only to dissapear from the public’s mind a couple years later? Pride goeth before the fall. Always.)

Sure. Google won’t be going anywhere for a couple of years, then they too will fade into obscurity and in the meantime, I’m sure they’ll just continue the Microsoft tact of paying-off anyone whose patents or copyrights they violate.
