Drudge, Huffington square off
Cory Bergman October 31st, 2006
You already knew that the Drudge Report and the Huffington Post are not the most objective news sites around, but these two screen grabs taken a week before the election tell a story. First, Drudge, which doesn’t mention any Iraq stories…

And the Huffington Post, which doesn’t mention the Kerry “botched joke” story…

Going to get nasty?!
Have we all lost perspective on things? It’s already nasty and has been that way for years. It’s immaturity at its worst because an entire nation is at stake. Our children are growing up thinking that these campaign commercials are perfectly legit adult behavior. Where are the family values groups when all these awful political ads run?
And we in the media still treat elections more like the Super Bowl than a civic service. Elections are job interviews. Candidates are applying for jobs as public servants and we’re doing the hiring. Instead, we focus more on their PR / ad campaigns, controversial statements, and everything that ISN’T important when election day rolls around. Since we focus on those things, the candidates only focus on those things. We create the quality of candidates by our coverage and I think we can all agree that the quality of candidates is seriously lacking on all sides. If we in the media expect more from public servants, we’ll get better candidates in the future.
It’s time for the media to ask themselves this question: Who are we serving? Our viewers or the political machine.
Sorry…I’ll just end my rant now. Politicians suck but they pay a chunk of my salary. So… D’oh.

where’s the “botched story”?
offer the option to all our service people “bogged down in iraq” to come home at day’s first light and the flights home would be packed.
before we wind up with napalm laden little iraqi girls running naked down baghdad streets bring them home.
just say “we won”. take it to the supreme court and let them declare it for you if there is any doubt.

btw- there was a mention of kerry’s statement/response(s) by one of the bloggers last night… maybe it’s gone by now.
i only got a glimpse of it, but intuitively i think he probably just dug the hole deeper.
he should just give ‘em the finger and SHUT UP.
