Thanks for jumping in ACE. Since this clip was shot at the Streaming Media West show, the discussion was focused around Flash video and we only had a limit amount of time, I chose to only talk about how Apollo will be used in the context of Flash video delivery and playback. You are right - Apollo certainly can be used for much more than that! Ryan Stewart has a blog posting entitled "A tour of Adobe's Apollo project with Kevin Lynch" on zdnet which provides a great overiew of th product. It's a good read for those who want to learn more about it.

Downloading flash has always been possible, there just hasn't been much need for it.

Apollo is more then just for downloading flash videos. Its going to be a platform for desktop development. Apollo is going to be a direct competitor for .net and java, the advantage to Apollo is in that it can take any web app written in flash or javascript/ajax and transform it into a desktop app. Adobe/Macromedia is making a big play into this desktop space. In a years time we may see an explosion of desktop apps using Apollo. Hock really didn’t explain it in such grandiose terms; maybe they are trying to keep it low key until it’s released.
