Political news, MSNBC’s new identity?

Cory Bergman November 5th, 2006

For the last couple weeks, MSNBC has been wall-to-wall with the election with many top NBC News talent. Now some are wondering if the strategy has legs after the election, especially now that a big chunk of MSNBC is moving to NBC News HQ at 30 Rock. Perhaps it’s the new identity MSNBC needs to differentiate itself?

It’s not a bad idea. Given that politics is a sport, they could be the ESPN. With the ‘08 election coming up, it would give them a two-year running start.

But I miss “The Most” at 3 p.m.

Could be what many radio stations do before a format flip . . . . like play Christmas music before going to talk.

I agree with Greg. I’m still hearing that the channel will most likely move to an all-tape format with Olbermann and Matthews moving over to CNBC. Moving to tape will save NBC some cash that it desperately needs, and with the Fox News business channel in the works, CNBC is attempting to up its muscle by adding some of MSNBC’s bigger names, although I’m not too sure how well Olbermann will work on a business oriented channel.
