NBC to launch 10 web series

NBC’s DotComedy will soon launch a full slate of original programming, some of which will incorporate user-created content. On the list: “Hot Tub in Space,” about a group of four twentysomethings who are launched into space while sitting in their… hot tub; “Untitled Comedy News Show,” a news parody that will pay users for jokes and “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog: Live in Las Vegas.” DotComedy’s current site…

It will be a matter of time before a site like this has a program that’s a big hit. Then the network affiliates will start to wonder what they’re going to do while the network goes around them. Revenue shares? Uh uh.
The networks are finding more and more ways around the affiliates, and the affiliates need a plan to cope with that. For starters, they need to be generating their own local original programming like crazy.
Locals: your network is developing its own business model outside you. Are you ready?
