Edward: Microsoft isn’t alone in that sentiment, but I don’t think they have much say in the matter. People are going to call the things what they want to call ‘em. True enough - you don’t need an iPod to watch/listen to one. But I think “podcast” is in the vernacular whether MS likes it or not.

Microft has stated that they DO NOT want to refer to music/video downloads to Podcasts!!!

ALL Video downloads will be Vidcasting/Vidcasts.

Podcast just gives promotion to the iPod.
