Just a few days after the announcement that she’s developing a show at HBO, former Rocketboom host Amanda Congdon has signed on to host a technology-related blog on ABCNews.com. She’ll also contribute to ABC News Now. “Her background and proven ability to effortlessly blend news and pop culture will be invaluable assets as we continue to evolve how we deliver news and information across our digital platforms,” said Albert Cheng, executive vp, digital media, Disney-ABC Television Group. It’s unclear what the blog will be, but I think it’s safe to assume it will be a video blog with some Rocketboomish elements. Will you tune in…?

Sports fans who signed up for CBS Sportsline’s fantasy football are pulling their hair out as the site keeps crashing during the most popular times, namely just before kickoff and between the games on Sundays. “We want you to know that we view our performance this year is unacceptable,” reads a letter to users on the site. It also includes a weekly report card of technology issues and what CBS Sportsline is doing to fix them. This last week, they gave themselves an “F.” Despite all the issues, you gotta hand it to CBS Sportsline for being open and upfront about the problems.

And not just online, but to online video. Take a look at this number: 53 percent of the 168 ad execs who responded in a survey by the American Advertising Federation say they expect 20 percent or more of their TV budgets will shift into online video by 2010. If that’s not a wake-up call, I don’t know what is. For TV stations, it’s time to go beyond repurposing TV video and start producing original clips tailored for the web while aggressively pursuing user-created content. You’re going to need the inventory.
