CBS Sportsline ‘bombs’ in fantasy football
Cory Bergman November 14th, 2006
Sports fans who signed up for CBS Sportsline’s fantasy football are pulling their hair out as the site keeps crashing during the most popular times, namely just before kickoff and between the games on Sundays. “We want you to know that we view our performance this year is unacceptable,” reads a letter to users on the site. It also includes a weekly report card of technology issues and what CBS Sportsline is doing to fix them. This last week, they gave themselves an “F.” Despite all the issues, you gotta hand it to CBS Sportsline for being open and upfront about the problems.

I play in three fantasy leagues — two of them free, and one — Sportsline — that requires a fee. I will not, let me repeat, will not ever play on CBS Sportline again. I can accept problems, except for when I pay for it. I sympathize with Sportsline’s position, but will not be a customer in the future.

This is not a new issue for them. I first used Sportsline years ago for FFB and they had the same problems. It had gotten better, but sounds like they’ve regressed.

This is very interesting, since this is a major company with a lot of resources; the traffic that they are handling is not some thing that the world haven’t handled before.

What does new and improved mean? If they only have problems with the cbssportsline on Sunday afternoons at NFL kickoffs then that is not a minor problem since that is the most important time for the site to be working. This will be my last year in my league unless we move to a different site. If it were free then you get what you pay for but when you pay you expect some level of competence.
