Congdon to blog for ABCNews.com

Cory Bergman November 14th, 2006

Just a few days after the announcement that she’s developing a show at HBO, former Rocketboom host Amanda Congdon has signed on to host a technology-related blog on ABCNews.com. She’ll also contribute to ABC News Now. “Her background and proven ability to effortlessly blend news and pop culture will be invaluable assets as we continue to evolve how we deliver news and information across our digital platforms,” said Albert Cheng, executive vp, digital media, Disney-ABC Television Group. It’s unclear what the blog will be, but I think it’s safe to assume it will be a video blog with some Rocketboomish elements. Will you tune in…?

Blending news and pop culture? Congdon sounds like a future “View” panelist.

Reality Check. Congdon says her she would like her work for ABC NEWS to have “a certain amount of integrity” (Q&A with BusWeek). Got it. Wouldn’t want TOO MUCH of that old-fashioned integrity stuff.

And she’s thrilled that at ABC NEWS she’ll have “people” to make sure her facts are, well, facts.

Amanda is a unique talent. What she does is great. So is Jon Stewart. So is Colbert. But none of them are “news analysts,” and at least the gang at Comedy Central have the wisdom and wit not to pretend otherwise.

Amanda, on the other hand, is someone who imagines herself “covering” stories … going “in depth” … someone ABC NEWS intends to put on televisioon with “news analysis” … someone ABC NEWS says it would “love to see … talking to [Illinois Senator] Barack Obama.”

This is where news organizations begin losing sight of who, and what, they are - or, in this case, who and what they used to be.
