CNBC.com gears up for relaunch

CNBC has been hard at work on a new, video-focused site that’s scheduled to launch on December 4th. “(It) will change the landscape of digital business news,” said Mark Hoffman, CNBC President. “We’ve recruited all-stars from across the industry to create a game-changing site that perfectly complements our worldwide television network while offering a breadth and depth of business news coverage that simply doesn’t exist on the web today.” While there are few details of what the new CNBC.com will offer, the site will have subscription components and a heavy video emphasis. PRESS RELEASE — ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., November 17, 2006 –CNBC, first in business worldwide, today announced new hires and appointments in preparation for the December 4th relaunch of cnbc.com. The announcements were made by CNBC President Mark Hoffman and cnbc.com Vice President Meredith Stark.

“On December 4th, cnbc.com will change the landscape of digital business news,” said Mark Hoffman, CNBC President. “We’ve recruited all-stars from across the industry to create a ‘game-changing’ site that perfectly complements our worldwide television network while offering a breadth and depth of business news coverage that simply doesn’t exist on the web today.”

The following have joined cnbc.com:

Albert Bozzo—Formerly Executive Producer and Director of the Video Network of Forbes.com, Mr. Bozzo joins cnbc.com as Senior News Editor. At Forbes.com, Mr. Bozzo was responsible for all aspects of editorial, production and technical operations. While at Forbes.com, he created the forbes.com “on-air” look and successfully doubled story count and page views. Previously, Mr. Bozzo was Deputy Managing Editor of TheStreet.com; Managing Editor, Europe of Bloomberg TV; Vice President/Executive Editor of International Herald Tribune TV; and Vice President/Executive Producer, Weekends, CNN Financial News. Mr. Bozzo is the recipient of numerous industry awards, including multiple CableACE Awards, a National Emmy and accolades from the Overseas Press Club and Cable & Satellite Magazine. A graduate of Beloit College and Columbia University, Mr. Bozzo resides in Chatham, New Jersey.

Scott Billings—Mr. Billings joins cnbc.com as Senior News Editor. Previously, he was the News Editor/Producer for WSJ.com Video where he created and produced a daily newscast of Wall Street Journal stories. He has also served as the Broadcast News Editor for the Wall Street Journal, where he coordinated TV stories on CNBC, “NBC Nightly News,” “Today” and MSNBC based on WSJ content. Mr. Billings began his career at WSJ and served stints as News Editor, Copy Editor and Deputy News Editor for the Journal, together with the Wall Street Journal Europe and the Asian Wall Street Journal. Mr. Billings holds a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan and resides in Bronxville, New York.

Viktor Cea—Mr. Cea joins cnbc.com as Director of Content and Design. He joins cnbc.com from Gartner, Inc. where he was Vice President, Design & Development for Product Platforms, responsible for the strategic and creative direction for Gartner products. Mr. Cea has also served as Creative Director for the CBS Internet Group and cbs.com, the original site encompassing CBS News, Entertainment and Sports, together with sites for 160 CBS affiliates. He holds a B.A from Columbia College, Chicago, Illinois and is a resident of New York City.

Alex Crippen—Mr. Crippen has been named Executive Producer of cnbc.com, responsible for live coverage, following more than 15 years of various editorial positions with CNBC. He also continues to serve as Executive Producer for Breaking News, CNBC World and CNBC Business Radio. Mr. Crippen began his media career in affiliate TV and news radio. He holds a degree in economics from Wesleyan University and resides in New York City.

Susan DeBaun—Ms. DeBaun is cnbc.com Director of Strategic Operations. She has been with CNBC for more than nine years and has held positions in Technology Operations, Graphics and Quality. Ms. DeBaun holds a B.A. from New York University and resides in New Milford, N.J.

Jeanne Rothermich—Ms. Rothermich joins cnbc.com as Senior Producer for TV Coverage. Most recently, she served as Vice President, Interactive Strategy for MSNBC, where she also held a number of positions focused on cross-platform strategy to enhance TV and web promotions and programming. A graduate of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, Ms. Rothermich started her career with the NBC TV Stations Division in various finance roles. Subsequently, she worked with NBC Sports and NBC Olympics in financial capacities. Ms. Rothermich resides in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

    I for one, cannot wait for this. I faithfully watch SquawkBox every morning and often want to cite their stories, but their site (and blog) has been so terrible and antiquated.

    I am just amused that while I work for a company that frequently provides the guests that appear on the air, and probably will appear on the site, the IT dweebs won’t allow any kind of web video through.
