News Corp. cancels O.J. book, special

Posted by Cory Bergman on November 20, 2006

After a firestorm of criticism, News. Corp. said today that it has canceled the O.J. Simpson book and Fox television special “If I Did It.” The network quotes News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch as saying he decided that the project was “ill-considered.” Several Fox affiliates had chosen not to broadcast the special, in which Simpson talks in hypothetical terms about his role in the killings.

I smell a lack of advertiser support. Look for pay-per-view and DVD deals. This will still make plenty of money.

    Why would they cancel it?

I want to know if Naked Gun 4 will be coming soon.

The story behind the cancellation will be a story unto itself. When Drudge first blasted the news- I wanted to know the story behind the story- and now a few hours later- nothing new on drudge, hufpo, tmz, latimes.com, etc Isn’t this Web 2.0. What gives? I have to believe that this was strickly a business decision by FOX. A good one IMO.

So, does OJ still get his paycheck for a book that’ll never see print?

  • Safran

Alas, now we’ll never find the real author.

Coming soon though, “The Bloody Glove: Behind The Dripping”

From what I heard earlier this evening on ABC News, 400,000 copies of the book had already been printed when FoxNews realized it was jumping the shark with this over-the-top ratings stunt.

In a completed unrelated story today, comedian Paul Rodriguez was at the Laugh Factory denouncing actor Michael Richards’ Friday night tirade and as I was watching the presser in the newsroom heard him say, kid you not, “People came here expecting to see a comedian and instead they got Mark Fuhrman.”
