New Wii controllers causing aches and pains
Cory Bergman November 25th, 2006
Nintendo’s new Wii system uses motion-sensing controllers that require gamers to act out movements that correspond with the game, like swinging a tennis racket. But now gamers are waking up the next morning with aches and pains and a “Wii elbow.” Worse yet, all that flailing around is resulting in mid-air collisions. For example, one guy accidently whacked his fiancĂ©e while playing tennis and then tagged his dog while bowling. Nintendo says it hasn’t received any compaints, yet, and offers this advice: “It was not meant to be a Jenny Craig supplement. If people are finding themselves sore, they may need to exercise more.” (WSJ sub. req.)

That’s a great quote! Maybe the government will offer subsidies to get more kids “active” by using their Wiis?

You can also control the Wii controller by simple wrist movements too, not just big over-dramatic swings.
When using ANY video game system, common sense and self-restraint is advised.

Not surprising really - most of the people who have rushed out to buy Wiis have probably never exercised much more than their thumbs before.

When it’s the first time you’ve exercised in years, you’re probably going to be sore.

Some of us recall buying the PowerPad with the original eight-bit Nintendo NES. It was easy, while attempting to “long jump,” to jump into the TV set….

Yeah, but with the PowerPad, incredibly lazy people (like me) figured out quickly that if you just put the balls of your feet just in front of the numbers and wiggled your legs, your heels would send the runners scorching down the track without having to resort to that horrible “picking up your feet to actually try to run” motion.
In time laziness will prevail here as well…..
