It still says “beta” up top, but it looks like another volley in Yahoo’s drive to bring more of their content to the forefront. I’ll have to say that it will take a little getting used to because the link to my personalized listings isn’t obvious and once there, I had to fiddle with the new slidey-things to see what’s on primetime.
Also, it doesn’t seem to want to keep my checkbox for displaying favorite channels and unlike it’s previous incarnation, it certainly doesn’t remember that I want it to default to primetime and I’m not seeing a place to set it, offhand.
The new mainpage looks good and though it may have more whitespace, it looks to be featuring much more content. But, I use tv.yahoo to see the television listings and the other stuff is more occasional. If they don’t fix it so that it’s easier for me to see the listings for my favorite channels during my favorite time, like the old site has worked for years, I’d have to regrettably frequent another source and the new features would go to waste.

Yes, cleaner, easier to navigate. That said, changing the UI is easy, a more challenging questions for example are; do they see they have a gold mine within Yahoo! Groups and that they should leverage their recent acquisition of Jumpcut in fostering on-line editing for these diverse groups? Something even bolder would be collaborating with Indie content creators in offering more originally produced fare?

I have to agree with discreet_chaos: The new version of the listings grid is a pain to use.

Poison Eye Candy! Do not consume!
1) When you clicked on a show it used to show details of that episode PLUS the titles of the next week or so’s episodes of shows on that particular station so you could easily see if your favorite episode was going to air later in the week. It doesn’t do that anymore. Instead it shows a listing of episodes produced that season, which is useless if I don’t know when they will air on my tv.
2) My station is in the list of available stations to customize my grid, but the station does not show up on the grid at all. This means that our viewers who use Yahoo won’t know what’s on our station but they’ll see the competition’s lineup just fine.
3) Doesn’t work in Firefox.
Thanks for a pretty face, Yahoo but how about getting the functionality right before replacing the previous working version.

the site….. is…. total…..ly…. un……usab…..le now. I’m being ajax-ed to death. I have a fast connection and processor, and it still redraws like absolute crap.
The new yahoomail blows as well. If I wanted a cramped interface ala outlook, I’d use outlook!!! I like the old interface which they are letting me keep (for the time being). It only has one UI flaw–when I log in, I want to be taken to my inbox, not a landing page.

The new TV page is a total disappointment. I give up. Had to go elsewhere to get my TV program sked. Too bad, the old one was pretty good. Hopefully someone will do a little repair to make this site much, much easier to use and to navigate.

WHY? WHY? Seems that I have heard a old saying that goes like this: “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”. You state that it’s been five years since the last update of the TV listings. I sure hope you don’t wait five years again. This new set up is a pain compared to the ease of the old setup.

Just in case any Yahoo! people are reading this;
The little box, way down on the front page appears to remember my favorite channels, but the checkbox on the fullpage won’t stay clicked, so it never defaults right.
Also and I’m in the mountain time zone, but both the box and the fullpage are off on time. Things which begin at 8pm my time, which are considered nine o’clock shows elsewhere are being shown on both listing grids as starting at 10pm.
These two things have never been an issue, before.

I wound up switching to AOL TV Listings.
This was just impossible. It took forever and I never did find the listings. Just all these ads.

another design by committee? didn’t terry semel come from tv?
11. jbelkin | December 8th, 2006 at 2:01 pm
The main problem is that it was clearly designed to look web 2.0 but CLEARLY not designed by someone who actually watches TV. It’s like offering a map feature but no zoom button - what is the point? They might as well just print a giant text file.
A plain guide nowadays is almost pointless. Most people have a digital box that tells them exactly what they watching or what’s on every other channel through the guide. An online listing must make it easier for TV fanatics who want to plan ahead.
The old guide was not going to win the designer any awards but on useability, it was definitely an A-
This site was designed to win the art guy an award but on the useability factor?

Can I give this an F-? What is even more outrageous than this ridiculous, horribly slow upgrade of Yahoo TV is that they are jamming it down our throats. I hope they lose millions as they have and should. A pathetic way to treat customers.
PS: I went to AOL tv and then to Titan

The New Yahoo TV! is the slowest site on the entire internet. They should have left it alone. I used to use it to find out which simpson’s were going to rerunned. Now I’m forced to look at annoying banners of countless crappy network tv shows. I am switching to zaptoit.com.
