Boston TV anchor shifts to web anchoring for station’s site
Steve Safran December 1st, 2006
A very interesting development at Boston’s ABC affil, WCVB: longtime anchor Jim Boyd is leaving the TV airwaves but keeping his job as an anchor. He’s going to report on stories throughout the day on the station’s website, thebostonchannel.com. Boyd, 64, was with the station when it debuted in 1972. He starts the new gig on Monday. We’re looking forward to more stations devoting this kind of resource to their websites.

god, i hope that leaves a scar.

steve,
did i missed it earlier, or did you just add the graphic?
from what little i know about you, it wouldn’t surprise me that you know thebostonchannel will simultaneously relaunch as wcvb along with this move by an icon of the station.
it would come as no great surprise anyways because time and again tv people think they know everything about the internet (which they do not).
take for instance when thelouisvillechannel reverted to wlky, their numbers spiked beautifully (for a day or two) and since have probed lows never seen back in the day. did someone say “write your headlines for search engines”? then why not write you domain name for search engines???
i guess we’ll see come monday morning… i’m all set for the razzing from boise too!

In fairness to WLKY.com, it’s spent much of the past year without an on-site editor. I suspect that has much more to do with any losses than the domain name.

z, ok, that seems reasonable. but what about thenewmexicochannel? i think their numbers did almost the exact same thing.
and since you’re in the know, will wcvb make the death move monday or continue with what is working now?

Isn’t making a veteran anchor online-only a virtual dog track? This may be WCVB’s way of running out his contract. Heresy in these parts, I know…

sure.
that’s why they also named him a “Special Correspondent”, like they did Martha Raadatz. (gee, i hope i spelled her name right)
