The third major NBCU exec to leave the company, Keith Turner is leaving his post as NBCU’s top TV sales exec. His replacement will be Mike Pilot, president of the commercial-finance division at General Electric, who has no TV sales experience. Explains MediaPost, “While the decision to hire a non-TV sales executive seems odd, it does play into Wright’s new vision for the company — which has less to do with traditional TV and more with digital-video distribution businesses.” MediaPost reports the decision came from high up in the company. “It really has to do with the bigger General Electric picture,” says one executive close to the company. This is yet another big wake-up call on the sales side of the TV business which is experiencing a massive cultural shift away from TV spots and dots.

Just two months into a user-created video partnership between Current TV and Yahoo, it looks like the two are parting ways. “Current is exploring better opportunities to distribute our content,” Current TV spokesman Alex Dolan told News.com. And the Yahoo page on Current says it is no longer accepting uploads. Writes PaidContent’s Rafat Ali, “Not sure what happened, but one guess: lack of interest/traffic/uptake of the joint Yahoo Current Network site. Second guess: Current TV founder Al Gore is an advisor to Google, did they not think this through well enough?”

The Washington Post has a centerpiece on the back-and-forth of convergence content management and evolving business plans that says it is hard to tell if TV is moving onto the Internet or if the Internet is moving on to TV. Chicken and Egg? Mission creep? Moot point? My designer pals and I used to make a game of finding Web influences creeping into print and TV graphics (seriously, did you ever see a pipe character in print design before online?), but those were in the days when real video g2 made us swoon. Today, my PC has a remote control and my TV is a monitor that has a useless thing called a tuner because all the content is fed through a digital box into channel 3. Now before I slip into my grumpy old man voice, how about some comments on the question.
