Politics Editorial Manager, MSNBC.com
D.C.
Cory Bergman December 5th, 2006
MSNBC.com is looking for a politics editor to plan and lead our online political coverage. This editor will manage a team of journalists and a consortium of media partners to deliver comprehensive, innovative 2008 elections coverage and to establish an unsurpassed political coverage brand.
This is not a job for the inexperienced. We have an award-winning news site with a reach beyond 25 million unique users per month. This editor will work with some of the best TV journalists in the business (MSNBC.com is the online home for NBC News and MSNBC-TV), as well as a powerful team that includes the most experienced and passionate multimedia journalists and partnerships with some of the best-known political publications. The job is based in the NBC News bureau in Washington, D.C.
The right candidate will be an editor-diplomat, who can bring our journalists and partners together in a common goal. We want the highest ethics and a sense of fairness. We want someone who knows America, not just D.C. Above all, we want a visionary, who can bring innovation to our site and to the way politics is covered.
BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in journalism or a related field, with a Master’s degree preferred. At least eight years handling editorial content, with online experience preferred. Production experience also an asset. The most successful candidates will have five-plus years of experience with a top-tier news organization; hands-on experience with web technology; a record of innovative development of content or technology; demonstrated news judgment; ability to lead; good communication skills and a track record for collaboration. On-air skills are also a plus.
