CNET’s Kim found dead after long search
Cory Bergman December 6th, 2006
The story in Oregon has a sad ending. James Kim, the CNET editor who got stranded with his family on a snowy back road in Oregon, was found dead today. His wife and two young kids were found alive earlier this week after searchers were able to zero in on a text message ping from a cell phone. Update: CNET has put together a story, video and message board in memory of James Kim.

very sad ending to an heroic effort.
to think he set out on foot in order to save his family…
which ultimately happened, but he paid the price.

Where are the tech ideas?
Did he have OnStar? If yes, why didn’t it work? Would it even work in the remote area if they didn’t have it?
Did he they have a survival pack for winter driving? Kitty litter, a shovel, blankets, flares, etc?
An “expert” comment in a package should relate how someone should be provided with the travel plan, in case something were to happen. Any deviance in this path would mandate a phone call to a live person, informing them of a shortcut.
