Ads on niche sites more engaging, finds study
Cory Bergman December 7th, 2006
This is a no-brainer to me, although I’m a little biased as the publisher of a niche site. A new study found that users find ads on smaller, niche sites more interesting and engaging than ads on sites with over 1 million uniques. “People are more engaged and more involved in the smaller sites that speak to a topic of keen interest to them,” said Kate Riegner, Media Screen’s director of research.

Which makes one wonder just how effective the bottom of the barrel remant ads are on our sites….
Those are filling spots that local or national didnt even sell…
The other day, our site had an Alaska Airlines ad on the homepage!!! (and, believe me, we are NO WHERE NEAR anyplace that Alaska Airlines serves…)
I actually think that users would probably THANK us if we just ate $300 a month (or whatever piddling amount it is) and didn’t run the remants…
how about just no ad when it gets down to that point?

How about a site (or part of a site) that is _just_ ads? I don’t know why this doesn’t exist yet… there are obviously ads that people like to watch, or classics that people remember (mine, which I can’t find, is Keith Jackson announcing a wedding like a football game). If companies would place their ads on such a site, and the ads were entertaining, they’d get thousands and thousands of views!
