TVs attacked by sweaty Wii gamers
Cory Bergman December 8th, 2006
Nintendo is cautioning Wii owners to keep their hands dry and keep a tight grip on their controllers after growing reports of TVs and other objects getting smashed by the flying devices. “If your hands become moist, stop and dry your hands,” warns Nintendo. And remove fragile objects nearby. To keep up with the latest reports of Wii craziness, visit WiiHaveaProblem.com. UPDATE: Oops, the site has crashed.

it’s a shame when a company doesn’t invest in an industrial designer who thinks about ergonomics

“it’s a shame when a company doesn’t invest in an industrial designer who thinks about ergonomics”
The Wii remote is nearly perfect, ergonomically. It is amazingly comfortable and offers a secure grip. The only things that could improve it would be rubberized/texturized surfaces and a thicker wrist strap. Nintendo is implementing the latter and there are rubber sleeves that offer the former.
I think the entire issue is blown out of proportion. There are only a few documented cases and undoubtedly some of those are fake.

Another decent option is http://www.tv-armor.com
Their screen protector could have easily stopped a wiimote.
