Copy Editor, CNN.com News Production. Five years full-time news writing
or editing, the ability to handle breaking news under heavy deadline
pressure and a proven understanding of U.S. domestic and International
issues. Must have newspaper, wire service or online copy editing
background. Broadcasting or multimedia experience is a plus. Ease of use
with computer applications necessary. At least four-year college degree.
Demonstrated editing skills (checking language, accuracy, balance, sensitivity).
Leadership (works effectively with writers, content editors). Effective
speed to keep up with demanding workload. Flexibility (can deal with rapid
changes in news, adapt to breaking news, handle several tasks at once).
Positive collaborative attitude (eager, energetic, team oriented).

Duties: The Copy Editor provides final detailed edit of copy and informational
graphics for factual accuracy, sourcing, balance, libel, tone, comprehensiveness,
grammar/spelling/style. The Copy Editor also ensures that text is up-to-date,
that it compiles with any CNN guidance related to that topic, and that story
elements work together as a cohesive whole. Edits story text, headlines,
captions and SMS. Works with content editors and writers to improve stories.
Uses various newsroom tools to update and maintain World page, U.S. page,
Main page, and others as needed. The Copy Editor may also be asked to write
stories by the assignment, coordinating producer or supervising producer.
Edits video streams, interactive elements and Web-based broadcast scripts,
such as Now in the News.

    Hi - Cnn is doing a fabulous job all around on the coverage of the fires in Calif.. One suggestion - I believe that the scams perpetrated on the homeowners will be the big story soon. A note reading “don’t sign your ” house away was a short notice but should be repeated with some
    additional info. from BBB,etc. Thanks ,W. Cooper
