I wonder how many of those DVD players are multiple-use machines, such as a computer or a gaming console? I'm sure if you count every DVD-capable device in most tech-savvy homes, you'd come-up with more than enough to counteract most home's single VCR and the often older people's, who only have the one device.

What about the number of DVD-RW/DVD+RW recorders and PVRs vs. VCRs? A DVD allows you to watch what someone else recorded, but doesn't provide true time-shifting like a VCR.

Although I sort of agree with Mark Cuban that we may never download complete movies over the Internet, I do believe there's a time coming where Tivo-like devices become cheap, especially if someone with a tuner card decides to use the ATSC Content Identification frames to pick off shows, rather than someone's time-based guides which often get messed over by networks (of course the content providers might not fill in those frames?)
