Japan’s ‘I’m a Mac / I’m a PC’ ads
Steve Safran December 22nd, 2006
The Apple Ads have a Japanese counterpart. Two Japanese actors play out what seem to be similar scenarios to what we’ve seen in the American campaign. The Japanese ad that shows the virus-prone “PC” character getting the flu, for example, is the closest reproduction to the esteemed work of John Hodgman and Justin Long.

Disclosure: I own shares of Apple stock. I bought too high, however.

I saw these when I was in Japan last month. However, I couldn’t understand what they were going on about. But I was familier with the ad, thanks to the loadingreadyrun.com mock-ads.

For all of Apple’s attributes, particularly in the style category, they shot themselves in the foot long ago by refusing to license out the OS to other vendors. That keeps the Macs’ pricing at a premium compared to comparably-powered pc’s. And, it keeps me from buying one.

Whatever the truth may be, that pricing also helps keep Apple viewed as being something special rather than merely a commodity. It would be great if Porsche lowered its prices, but it ain’t gonna happen.

“bought too high, however”
hang in there, steve.
it’s what they have not introduced yet that might unlock more of apple’s true value. i can remember when the ipod first came to market and the battery issue was going to be the end of it.
“may there never, EVER, be a day when we get all our music (unbundled) from a little white box vs. cd’s, radios, etc.”
sorry baker, i just couldn’t resist!

The high price used to be true (though it was worth it).
But there have been some recent comparisons of Macs and Dells where the Macbook was cheaper.
