James Brown on the T.A.M.I. show, same tape I’ve had for years

Steve Safran December 25th, 2006

One of the greatest performances in rock history, the appearance of James Brown on The T.A.M.I. Show singing “Prisoner of Love/Please Please Please.” Features the now-cliche but then-amazing scene of JB being handed his cape and ushered offstage, only to throw it off and keep on singing. The performance that so stunned the Rolling Stones that they were terrified to go on after him.

ALSO: The now ironic, but still amazing, James Brown performance of
Please Come Home For Christmas (Rhapsody player required.)

Agreed. We ran it on NECN this morning, and I humbly suggested we simply violate copyright and run it in full for the rest of the day. Yule Logs be damned - I’d keep this on for 24 hours straight.

Thank you! Thank you! I have been looking, for years, for a copy of James Brown’s T.A.M.I. show performance. It was incredible. And yes, this is what should be shown, over and over, on a tribute to him and on newscasts. I would love to buy a video or DVD of this. Does anyone know if it is sold anywhere?

I’ve been looking for some old footage of James and i finally found it hear. His performance of “Outa sight on the Tami show also showed his incredible dance abilty. If anyone is interested in some comments on James Brown during his hey day you should contact Shelley The Playboy Stewart in Birmingham who was one of the DJ,s who broke and promoted James in the 50’s+60″s.

I’ve been looking for this clip/DVD also. I saw the TAMI Show film at a movie theatre when I was a kid in the early 60’s. We went to see the Rolling Stones but we left talking about James Brown. I’ve read several times that Dick Clark owns the rights to this version of the TAMI Show and has never released it for sale. Perhaps now his company will do the right thing.
Thanks Again for putting this out. Let’s share it!!
